Like most people, I have been making hot chocolate all of my life; it's nothing new. We're a family who loves [the] drink and that'll never change. My boys actually look forward to it every end-of-year. But now, it's time to introduce my Lil' Ezra to the wonderful world of fall. And this time around, we're adding salted caramel.
Here's what you'll need:
3 cups chocolate chips, your choice of milk, semi-sweet or dark
10 cups whole milk
2½ cups heavy cream
1 14 oz. can caramel flavored sweetened condensed milk*
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ teaspoon sea salt
caramel sauce and whipped cream topping, if desired.
*If you can’t find caramel flavored sweetened condensed milk you can substitute 14 oz. of caramel sauce used for ice cream topping.
Here's how you do it:
Except for sea salt—add all ingredients to your crock pot.
Cover and simmer on low for approx. 2 hours.
Whisk hot chocolate, occasionally, until chocolate chips melt.
When ready to serve, stir in the sea salt into your crock pot.
Serve hot. Top with whipped cream and caramel sauce, if desired.
