Really, I'm not.
SUGAR COOKIES date back many, many, many years so there's no secret to this madness. But there is something about sugar cookies that screams love. So if you are that person who cringes at the mere thought of seasonal baking, sorry, this post is not for you. As for the rest of us, it is time!
It's time to turn up that Christmas music and crank up that oven!
With that said, I'm sharing my recipe for VANILLA BEAN SUGAR COOKIES. Write it down, store it, keep it handy, memorize it; it is THE BEST sugar cookie recipe you will ever want or need. And the only one my kids and I use during the holidays.
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup Crisco shortening
1 cup vanilla sugar, or regular sugar
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract (…don’t skip the almond extract, it makes a delicious difference.)
Combine flour, baking powder, set aside.
Whip shortening, sugar, egg, and both extracts.
Slowly combine the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
Roll out dough, ¼” - ½" thick
Bake 10-12 minutes
