Oh the blurs—hence the photo—in my life.
Blurs because I've made a lot of mistakes in my dating life.
I'm no serial dater! And if you ask anyone who knows me personally, they will tell you that I cringe when it comes to going on a date—let alone “dates” as in plural.
I hate it, I just do.
But I will say this—with every man I’ve dated, I’ve walked away with learned experiences.
Dating is tough, to put it nicely! And trust me, although I’m not big on dating, it’s a pretty safe bet that I’ve just about dated every type of guy out there. Well, except for the techy-nerdy guy.
Anyway, here are my top 10 dating guidelines that I find helpful in my life.
Some are common sense, others are learned experiences, nevertheless, I'm just like you. I too have been played, lied to, and cheated on.
So pay attention ladies.
DON’T BE SEDUCED WITH WORDS
If his words are catchphrase, don’t just sit there and bat your eyelashes. You see the signs, don't pretend like you don't.
Reality: A true gentleman will never shower you with fancy words and cheesy pick-up lines.
NEVER DO A JERK CRY
Crying for a jerk is like staying in a bad relationship. It's free will! If he treats you bad, it’s because you let him.
Reality: A man, who genuinely likes you, will never disrespect you or treat you bad.
DON’T BOG DOWN YOUR GIRLFRIENDS
You already know their answer. Stop whimpering. Either he makes you feel good or he doesn’t; there’s nothing to analyze.
Reality: Your girlfriends love you but they're sick of your whining. Plus I bet they've told you so a million times.
NEVER ASK WHERE THINGS ARE GOING
If you have to ask him where things stand; you're giving him too much power.
Reality: If a man wants you, you'll never have to ask. His actions will speak louder than his words.
It doesn't matter who you are, we all have that inner voice that likes to play on our insecurities. Pay NO attention to it.
Reality: A strong woman is more attractive—than a weak one—TRUTH!
THE CRAZY ONE
If a man stresses you out so much that it brings out your crazy, he is not for you.
Reality: A good man will bring out the good in you, it's that simple.
NEVER BELITTLE YOUR BODY
If he isn’t showing you the attention and affection you deserve, don’t allow him to dictate what he wants from you either.
Reality: If he isn’t giving you what you want, don’t give him what he wants. And yes, that includes sex too.
THE NEEDY WOMAN
A needy woman is a turn off. Never beg.
Reality: Men chase the challenge. If you're a beggar, you're too easy to catch.
THE WOMAN IN DENIAL
Stop making excuses for him. No one is ever too busy, it's a matter of priorities.
Reality: If he always has an excuse why he can't—you are not a priority—end of story.
THE GOOD GIRL, BE HER!
In the end, it's about you. What you believe in. What you stand for. Don't believe the hype that good girls finish last. If you're a good woman, be a darn good one. But in the meantime, don't compromise your good girl qualities for a man unworthy of your dignity. There is no penis worth your tears.
Reality: When you stop looking for him, you will find him—the right man.
