I love the woman described in Proverbs 31; she is amazing. She gives women an image of what God describes as a virtuous woman—all women, not just married ones.

“She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.” She works hard and make a profit. It’s not beneath her to work.

“She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.” She works hard, makes good investments, and reaps the profits.

“She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks." From my perspective, this may encourage physical ability; being healthy. II'd even say it may reference the importance of being able to keep up with your career and/or your family.

“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.” Being a trustworthy woman, married or not, brings peace and joy to all relationships and friendships.

“She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.” The point of this verse is not to make your own fabric and clothes. Rather go about your tasks with a desire to willingly take care of your family. How this correlates in my life is not complaining, even if it’s not my favorite thing to do.

“She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.”  I interpret this to mean she's diligent. Hard working. She makes time for work, the only time she can, sometimes even late into the night.

“She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.” This to me indicates she seeks goods and food to serve her husband and children and gladly puts forth the effort to obtain excellence for her family.

“Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.” A husband that does well in life usually has a supportive wife by his side. It doesn’t mean the wife is a doormat or is valued any less. She simply has a different role, but clearly, this passage is meant to build her up just as much as her respected husband.

“She gets up when it is still night; she provides for her family...” Waking up early is not an easy thing to do these days with so many career-minded women working late hours. The Proverbs 31 woman knows this and still, it brings her joy and happiness to get up early to do things for her family.

“She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen...” She may not necessarily be trendy or wear expensive clothes, but she definitely maintains her style in appearance, and in her home.

“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” She has a heart of gold that is open to giving and caring for others.

“When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.” She plans and prepares for days ahead. She has the foresight to be ready for anything, including unpredictable weather.

Be her, The Proverbs 31 Woman.
